The World Is Our Lab

Our founders Michael and Rithvik met as a pair of science geeks in college. While on a climbing trip in the Alps, Michael had trouble staying warm despite being puffed up with layers of insulation. There had to be a better way to enjoy the adventure.

OROS started with an Astronaut Scholarship and an idea. Why not leverage the Aerogel technology used by NASA to protect against extreme environments here on Earth? We took the scientific method and a lot of iterations to develop the best insulation in the universe; we call it Solarcore.

Michael Markesbery | Co-Founder and CEO

“I knew there had to be a better way”

From launching high-altitude balloons into the stratosphere to in person liquid nitrogen demos, Michael takes on his role as CEO much like an astronaut - he’ll give it a shot. Passionate about science and engineering his whole life, OROS is the moonshot that brought it all together.

When not sciencing the sh*t out of everything OROS, Michael is usually kite surfing, climbing mountains, and looking for his next big mission.

Rithvik Venna | Co-Founder and COO

“We have the thinking of the future”

Since his family moved from India to Cleveland, Rith’s knack for exploring drives his passions in and outside HQ. Always down to push the limits and inspire the team to find their beyond, you can call him Mission Control.

With a passion for motorsports to leading the team on their next big excursion, Rith is the man with the plan. When not testing physical and chemical properties with Michael, you can find Rith on the slopes, on the tracks and reaching for the next moonshot.

Research. Test. Repeat.

Born from space science, and driven by design engineering, OROS was founded on the pursuit of building the best insulation technology on the planet. At our core, we are science and adventure geeks — a good test gets us going. Whether in the field or in our LAB we’ll be posting our ongoing research of building the best gear for your active life.
